07. Slow Life @ 65 BPM (Jku's Drawing Notes)
Laya Ballon is a young woman chasing her dream of becoming a fashion model. The industry looks glamorous, but it moves at a fast pace and comes with constant pressure. Along the way, she starts collecting small self-care rituals, including learning to play a slow guitar song, to get her energy back.
The idea was inspired by 吉沢深雪's "わたしに元気を送る12の方法". Among the many books on self-care, I chose to focus on the methods that truly worked for me. As the ideas came together, I let my original character, Laya Baloon, whom I often draw while practicing anime-style poses, carry the message. I hope something here helps you slow down too.

The guitar tab in the zine is inspired by Mauricemori's guitar arrangement of Kapp'n's song. I had a secondhand guitar that I purchased for $40, and I hired a guitar tutor, Andrew Seimar, to teach me this song specifically. I don't have any music or guitar experience, so this was very new to me. Learning the song was quite tough, but I really enjoyed it.
